daisy raises a mint through It's a Knockout |

The threat of rain failed to stop a daisy's charity efforts as a classic TV game show provided some Bank Holiday cheer. Despite the Barrowford Show becoming a victim to last week's torrential rain, an enterprising team of fundraisers from daisy defied the weather reports to put on a rib-tickling version of ‘It's a Knockout'. While the show site, comprising of the Barrowford Park and Bull Holme Playing Fields, remained firmly off limits over the Bank Holiday Weekend, Barrowford Cricket Club welcomed 500 people to watch the madcap show. "We were determined this event would go ahead," said daisy spokesperson Katharine Butler. "The company's Prince's Trust Enterprise Team made a pledge to raise £20,000 for The Prince's Trust and with this being one of our flagship events, we had no option but to have faith in the weather and put the show on! "After learning the Barrowford Show had been cancelled on Thursday night, we had to undertake some drastic, and very last minute, action to ensure that our event would be taking place, and more importantly, ensure members of the public were aware it was still taking place." "And with the support of Barrowford Cricket Club, the show was bigger and better than we envisaged." The original BBC archived costumes were once again shown the light of day, and Barrowford's cricket field became an assault course of giant inflatables and gushing rivers of foam. With a mass warm-up involving more than 130 people, 12 teams took on the challenge of dressing up as 12ft ogres, 10ft budgies and contesting slippery circuits to take part in three hours of nostalgic fun. More than £3,000 was made from the event, sponsored overall by Fort Vale Engineering, and supported by Althams Travel, Neville Gee Recruitment, MacGregor Europe and the Rotary Club of Colne. The daisy Enterprise Team has pledged to raise money for The Prince's Trust as part of the Million Makers Challenge, an initiative that has pitted teams from across the country against one another to raise the most amount of money. |
